Social Llama Cafe | Our Story
Plant-based food born from family love
Chef Kumar Ishan built Social Llama Cafe after his family struggled with food allergies — a personal mission that became a fully vegetarian and vegan bistro on Yonge Street.

The personal mission
Chef Ishan didn't set out to chase a trend—he built Social Llama after watching the most important women in his life (his wife, sister, and mother) struggle to find restaurant meals that accommodated their dietary restrictions. Every dish is made with genuine care for every kind of eater.
A fully plant-based table
Every dish is vegetarian or vegan — no negotiating with a limited side section or asking for dairy to be left off. Guests with gluten or dairy restrictions can ask the team for guidance.
Rooted in Midtown
Social Llama sits in Yonge Street's corridor of independent businesses — a Midtown café that genuinely belongs to the neighborhood, not a downtown concept transplanted north.
The room and the welcome
More than a café — we are a gathering place. From handcrafted specialty coffee and espresso in the morning to curated wines, craft beer, and artisanal cocktails paired with globally-inspired vegetarian dishes, everyone has a seat at our table. The dining room is intimate and unhurried — warm lighting, genuine hospitality, and a space built for lingering.
